Our private pool sits to the North side of the house, but far enough from it that it stays in Sunshine for most of the day.
The Pool was given a much-needed facelift, and completely retiled with Mosaics during 2008.
As you can see, there is not a great deal of space around the pool, and we recommend you take care when walking around the narrow pool edge. The pool is fenced and gated, and children should be supervised whenever they are using the pool. The pool slopes, from about 0.5m deep, to about 1.8m deep at the far end.
Although the pool doesn’t really have room for Sun Loungers around it, our secluded rear terrace is just a few steps away, and is a real suntrap in the afternoons. There is, however, a large awning which extends from the side of the house, if the sun gets a little too much for you!
The rear entrance to the house is from this terrace, which is completely unoverlooked.
To the front of the house, the large Balcony has fantastic views of the surrounding countryside. There is a table and chairs for al fresco dining, as well as a set of comfy chairs for just sitting and enjoying the view. There are also two large extendible awnings which stretch the full width of the balcony, and give valuable shade from the summer sun. A large Gas Barbecue is provided on the balcony.
Below the balcony is a covered woodstore and parking place (NB: It is not designed for large cars – please check that yours will fit before reversing into it!). There is also a paved area big enough to park two or three cars.
Beyond the paved area are the terraced gardens, containing a variety of flowers and shrubs, as well as several fruit trees, and some grape vines.
One of our fruit trees is actually three trees in one – one third of it has Mandarins, one third has Oranges, while the other third has Grapefruit. We also have two lemon trees, to the side of the house (handy for those G&Ts!), as well as a Apricot tree, a Pomegranate Tree, and an Almond Tree, and a couple of Olive Trees.
Guests are very welcome to pick and use any fruit which is ripe during their stay. A juicer is provided in the kitchen.
Also to the side of the house is a traditional Paellero. This is where you cook your Paella – although it also serves quite well as a Barbecue. You’ll also find the Washing Machine here, should you need to do laundry during your stay, and a Sink.
There is also a second fridge-freezer in the Paellero. We’ve found it invaluable, since it means we can have a constant supply of cold drinks, without using up valuable space in the house fridge!
There is a supply of logs for the wood-burning stove, underneath the front balcony.
Finally, to the side of the driveway is a small seating area, overlooking the garden. It’s a pleasant place to sit and drink a glass or two of wine. On windy days, it’s also more sheltered than the balcony. There is an extendable canopy which can be used to provide additional shade, and a firebox which can lit on spring and autumn evenings if the weather gets a little chilly.
